Scholarship portals open for a few weeks; income certificates take longer than that to issue. The single biggest reason eligible students miss out is paperwork that started too late.
The core folder is short: income certificate from the tehsil office, caste or category certificate where applicable, the previous year's marksheet, a bonafide letter from the institution, and a bank account in the student's own name.
Two silent killers: a bank account not seeded with Aadhaar — scholarship transfers quietly fail without it — and name spellings that differ between marksheet and bank records. Fix both before applying, not after a rejection.
Renewals are easier than fresh applications but are still missed: most schemes need re-application every year, not automatic continuation. Put the portal's opening month in the family calendar the way exam dates go in.
