School admission season: eight questions every parent should ask

Beyond the brochure — the questions that reveal how a school actually runs, and the paperwork to keep ready.

School admission season: eight questions every parent should ask

Brochures all promise the same things. The differences show up in the answers to specific questions — ask them on the school visit, not after the fee is paid.

Ask how the school communicates with parents week to week, what the actual teacher turnover was last year, and how it handles a child who falls behind in one subject. The answers tell you more than any lab photograph.

On money, ask for the full annual picture in writing: tuition, transport, activity charges, and what increases are typical year over year. A school confident in its numbers will hand them over without ceremony.

Keep a single folder — birth certificate, address proof, previous school records, photographs — scanned and physical. Admission windows are short; the prepared parent moves first.
