FASTag trouble? Balance, blacklists and double deductions, sorted

The five-minute checks that keep you moving at the toll plaza — and what to do when the gate does not lift.

FASTag trouble? Balance, blacklists and double deductions, sorted

Most FASTag failures at the plaza come down to three causes: low balance, a tag blacklisted for old dues, or a sticker mounted where the scanner cannot read it cleanly.

Check the balance in your issuing bank's app before a highway day, and keep auto-recharge on with a sensible floor. A tag goes into blacklist when the linked account slips below the minimum — it clears within hours of a top-up, not instantly at the gate.

If you are charged twice for one crossing, note the plaza name and time and raise a dispute with your issuer; deductions carry the plaza code, so genuine doubles are straightforward to reverse.

And if a lane misreads a valid, funded tag, you are not obliged to pay double in cash — note the lane, keep your recharge proof, and complain to the issuer. The paper trail is what gets money back.
